What is Super Bowl?
The Super Bowl is a special American football game played every year to decide the winner of that National Football League (NFL) season. It is the championship game of the National Football League (NFL), played by the winners of the league’s American Football Conference and National Football Conference each January or February. The game is hosted by a different city each year. In 1966, the NFL and the rival American Football League (AFL) merged to form the National Football League (NFL). Although the merger was not completed until 1970, the first such event, then known as the AFL-NFL World Championship Game, was held on January 15, 1967, in the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum. The term “Super Bowl” was first coined in 1969, as was the usage of Roman numerals to denote the individual games because the game is held in a year other than the season in which it culminates.
The game was so popular that Super Bowl Sunday had become an unofficial American holiday, with viewing parties taking place in homes, pubs, and restaurants around the country. The week leading up to the game is marked by a lot of media coverage and a festival atmosphere in the host city. Extensive before and halftime festivities and entertainment are held in conjunction with the game.
